Splinky took me to the D-Backs home opener this past Monday...and I have pictures to prove it.
We decided to try out the new light rail and it works like a charm. There are two park and ride locations out near us, one at the 101 and Apache and the other at Dobson and Apache, with plenty of parking. The light rail fare is $1.25 each way, or $2.50 for an all day pass, and since we would need to return at some point, we obvisouly went the all day route. This was also beneficial after the game as we didn't have to wait in a long line to buy a ticket.
The trip downtown took about 40 minutes, but we saved money on parking and gas and we were dropped off 1 block from the stadium, so we didn't have to walk far. It wasn't the most scenic route, but it got the job sone. (Also, there is a stop right outside of Sun Devil Stadium, so that will be perfect for ASU football games.)
And of course the D-Backs won!!! They were off to a great start before dropping the next 2 to the Rockies. The new second baseman, Felipe Lopez, and Tony Clark both homered from each side of the plate, which is unique in its own right, but has never happened on opening day. Why they track stats like this, who knows? Why opening day vs. game 57??? Baseball fans must have some extra time on their hands.
